When looking at all the marriages this year, including my own, I am reminded of this passage in Matthew 24:38-46, where Jesus says, "For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. The Lord has taught me that marriage is not just for my own happiness so that I could just eat, drink and get married with my spouse and do this with other couples, but rather, for what God intended my marriage to become and what God intended it to be, I must make a commitment to put God at the center of my relationship. I pray that all of us may make this commitment to put God at the center of our relationships. Let us not be carried away by the way that this world and generation conceives marriage, by living to only please ourselves, families and friends. But, rather, let us live by the true purpose of what God intended marriage to be...by continuing on to serve and glorify Him and His Kingdom as one body as He has planned from the very beginning. Matthew 6:19-20 reminds us, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Let us pray for God's wisdom as we make these life-long commitments, and let us not follow the crowd to seek their approval, but follow the cross and seek God's approval. In the name of Jesus I pray. |
